Add a watermark to a PDF

Stamp text across every page — DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a name — at the angle and weight you set.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

The text is drawn into the document rather than composited over a picture of it, which matters more than it sounds: the pages underneath stay text, so a watermarked contract is still searchable, still selectable and still the same file size. A tool that flattens each page to an image gets you a watermark and loses everything else.

It goes on centred and diagonal by default, because a watermark in a corner is a watermark that can be cropped off. The angle runs from flat to steep, and the opacity is the setting that actually matters — dark enough to be unmistakable, light enough that the page underneath is still readable, which is usually somewhere around a quarter.

The size is a fraction of the page rather than a point size, so the same setting reads the same on A4, on Letter and on a landscape slide. Every page of every file dropped in gets the same stamp; there is no per-page exception, because a document with one unstamped page is a document that has not been stamped.

Step by step

  1. 1Drop in the PDF.
  2. 2Type the text, then set its size, how dark it is, and the angle.
  3. 3Press Download PDF.

Questions

Can the watermark be removed afterwards?

It is drawn into the page content, so it cannot be toggled off — but it is not security. Anyone determined can edit it out with a full PDF editor. Treat it as a label, not a lock.

Can I use an image as a watermark?

Not yet — text only. A logo watermark is a separate job and is not built here.

Does the file get bigger?

Barely. A line of text per page and one embedded font is a few kilobytes across the whole document.
