A screen recording picks up whatever was in the room. A clip filmed outdoors is mostly wind. A video going into a presentation, a loop on a website or a background on a stream needs to be silent by definition, and muting it in the player is not the same as the file being silent — anyone who downloads it gets the sound back.
This drops the audio track out of the file entirely. It is not silenced, it is not there, which also makes the file smaller by however much the soundtrack weighed.
The picture is untouched: with no video setting changed, the frames are copied across rather than re-encoded, so removing the sound is lossless and quick. That is worth knowing, because a tool that re-encodes to mute a clip costs you a generation of quality for nothing.

Is the audio really gone?
